Talking Business - David Evetts and Grant Moody

Executives at USAA

A notable practioner is San Antonio, TX based USAA, which provides insurance, banking, and investing services to nearly 12 million customers.   The company  was founded in 1922 by former Army officers who found they could not find insurance offers like civilians could. Now one third of their employees are either veterans or spouses of veterans. The company is again the title sponsor of the Army-Navy Football Game in Philadelphia on Dec. 9th.

Had the chance to talk with two managers of USAA both veterans, service academy and business school graduates:

David Evettsa former football player at West Point and Cornell Business School grad is Executive for Enterprise Strategy & Marketing and Grant Moody, a college football player at the US Naval Academy, former Marine F18 pilot, UPenn Business school grad, now Executive Director for Property Insurance Experience.

We focused in our talk about how veterans can make the transition to civilian business opportunities. Grant advises veterans, “Know the benefits you have earned, make a list of skills learned in the military, what you enjoy doing, and try to find a company with the right culture." David suggested importance of making a plan 12 -18 months before leaving the ,military, study potential industries, have a profile on LinkedIn."
